Somaliweyn,

One of the two rectangular ones could be the restaurant. The gasoline shed was taller and I remember the third building as squarish. Can't really tell much without seeing the surroundings.

Metal,

I didn"t get to Jilib until 1966. You can see my post in the baafin section for the names of the people I knew. I lost contact in 1969.

Somaliweyn: Yeah sorry about the pic, I keep messing it up, the real Dusomareeb whose photo I don't have time to post, is about 5x that size.

Grant: Yeah, I checked your Baafin topic, and I know one of the guys you listed, the Majerteen guy, he's from the Ismaciil Salebaan sub-clan, he's my distant uncle and lives here in Minnesota close to my family. He lived in Jamaame as well for a short period of time. I'm hoping we're talking about the same guy here, their names sound VERY similar oh and he was also a teacher, that much I know.

BTW, you sound like a sincere Reer Waamo and I know very well about the whole relocation period where many Northerners and foreigners were sent too Waamo to reeducate the locals.

Oh and this is Paidmonk for better understanding.

Metal,

I do so hope we are talking about the same guy! But my friend was secretary to the Russian agricultural project, not a teacher.

Grant,

Talking to my parents, they say that there were two large missions in Jamaame and Jilib, but they only know the mission workers in Jamaame, but they have said that MANY Whites, of all nationalities were working in both towns. The guy, Abdi Salad Seguleh that you posted is unfamiliar to my family, I mistook him for another guy, but good luck finding him.

Metal,

Thank you for trying.

I was the only white guy in Jilib most of the time. There was an Italian doctor that worked part time at the leprosarium across the river, and I once saw a nun riding a bike west from Jilib so I assume there were others in the area, but I never met them. The only other PC Volunteer in the area was Elaine Barthold, who was in Jamaame. You are thinking of the Menonite mission in Jamaame. There wasn't anything like that in Jilib when I was there.
