Arabman,
Off the top of my head.
1. It would change the balance of power in the Middle East.
2. The nuclear non-proliferation treaties.
3. Iran does not recognize the conventions of Westphalia or the concept of diplomatic immunity.
4. Iran supports Hezbollah, a transnational Shia military and political organization whose stated goal is the destruction of Israel and the seizure of power in Lebanon and possibly Syria.
5. Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism through it's Republican Guard cells hidden in the Sunni states and all over the world.
6. A good number of countries fear the Farsi religious leadership is crazy enough to give fissionable materials suitable for a dirty bomb to one or more terrorist organizations, especially if they have no nuclear bomb themselves or lack the ability to deliver one, or if they simply think they will be caught and held responsible..
7. Realistic or not, an increasing number of countries are becoming aware of the Islamic goal of world domination and would rather see a small war now than a bigger one in five or ten years.
8. Other major players in the region, for sure Turkey and KSA, do not want to see Iran with a nuclear arsenal.
