Dulbahante making a play for Darwiishland?

Postby James Dahl » Tue Sep 18, 2007 10:41 am

I've been reading more reliable news sources (ie those not from Hargeisa or Bosaso) and it appears that Somaliland has stationed more troops in the area of Las Anod, but has not engaged in fighting. The Dulbahante however ARE fighting Puntland forces there. Ahmed Abdi Habsade claims he is not responsible, but confirmed that it is his clan that has taken over south Las Anod.

So the question is, why is Somaliland there? Are they going to help the Dulbahante? Take Las Anod for themselves and fight both other forces? Just reinforce their border?

James,

There is no play at all.

The Somaliland Army is there to mop up whoever is left among the Dhulbahante to fight them.

In the end, there will be no Darwiishland because Somaliland won't allow it nor will Puntland.

Dhulbahante are simply caught up in the middle and come out playing junior to Somaliland/Puntland.

Well the same could have been said for Maakhir State, and yet the Warsangeli kicked Puntland out and declared their own state.

It's interesting that Somaliland has not condemned Maakhir the way Puntland has. I think this might be Riyale's strategy to build buffer states between him and Puntland.

It might be his ambition that Maakhir and Darwiishland be autonomous states of Somaliland, rather than autonomous states of Somalia. If Somalia can be a federal state, why not Somaliland? That would resolve the issues with Awdal seperatists too, by granting them autonomy.

The truth is there hasn't been any fight inside Las Anod that took place between somaliland or Puntland. But as you said it was war between several hundred clan militia of Xaabsade(former Pland PM who was sacked). The clan militia took over some parts of the city from the Puntland.

HOWEVER, there was a short lived battle in Abeesalay near Adhi cadeeye where the SL troops and PL troops exchanged some mortars and anti aircraft fire. Pland forces are reported to have withdrawn from that area, and now somaliland is in control of abeesalay.

Furthermore, some somaliland troops advanced over into Las Canood's southern side where they are stationed as we speak. Puntland is saying they will counter attack and defend itself. But I don't how they might do that since they have no loyalty from their 'kinsmen' of Dhulbahante.

Edit: The intentions of Somaliland are clear. They will help the Dhulbahante if they have to and will also at the same time long for securing the borders.

Dahl,

Somaliland troops have nothing to do with the take over of Las Anod. It was all done by local clans. Simple as that. Somaliland did clash with Puntland troops in abeesalay but that was hardly enough to be considered a fight. It was just light mortar exchange.

James Dahl

Somaliland is not in LaasCanood, Both armies are in Abaasalay....

Don't listen to Abdiwahab he has no clue and nor do these Hargasawi snet members who take their source from Hargeisa based media that has no clue about Sool region.

A pro Somaliland dhulbahante militia entered Las Anod yesterday but today they handed over there weapons and went to their families after being told to do so by the clan elders.

"Dhanka kale waxaa ay odayaasha iyo wax-garadku ku guulaysteen in ay kala daadiyaan Maleeshiyadii taabacsanayd maamulka Riyaale ayna ku adeegayanayeen Dhakool iyo Dalbac, waxaana la sheegayaa in reer waliba wiilashiisii kaxaystey"

As far as DarwiishLand is concerned, This will be discussedat the Dhulbahante Grand Confference after Ramadan which will be held in Las Anod.

Because Xaabsade was sacked from his post in the Puntland government. He should be mad. that how somali affairs function, you fire my main man, you'll run in trouble with the tolka. Laughing

Edit: okay fine you say somaliland has something to do with it, then could you tell us what that is exactlY? Laughing

Also, it seems that things weren't just local clan militia and Pland, but also Somaliland has gotten piece of the act.
