What I'm trying to say is that unlike other countries where the best and brightest immigrate to Western countries, for Somalis every person regardless of their background/work ethics comes. If there was no civil war, there wouldn't be so many Somalis all over the world. There would only be international students and middle class people who immigrate and those the best Somalis would represent us unlike our present situation where every Tom, ceeb and Harry is here.

You focus on the ignorant Somalis. We have plenty of people who came here with the clothes on their backs and made something of themselves. We have people who came and spread Islam like wild fire in the West and even corrected the practices our Arab/Paki brothers were doing here before us.

Allah SWT put Somalis in this situation to test their faith and their readiness. I think a lot of Somalis kept their faith held up high and made something of themselves in their new homes.

Reer Baadiyo = Someone who is stuck in their ways and their mindset is still in the third world. Either learn the social values of your new country or go back home.

reer baadiye: a somali who doesn't take advantage of the resources available to them in the west, but instead chooses to abuse the system. While having the mind set that he/she is still a nomad, living in village herding camels.

cornflower, i think you do not really know what you are saying. to you whoever does not assimilate and in your own words, "learn the social values" of the host country is an embarrassment. to you whoever does not come from somaliland is an embarrassment. well many somalilanders did not assimilate. and many southern people did. you want every somali to be educated, to speak perfect english and to behave like the typical westerner. i think you are a bit insecure yourself and that leads you to becoming more embarrassed of your own culture and your people. somalis are recent immigrants, they have good ones and bad ones among them. you will hear bad stories coming from the somali community but you will also hear good positive stories coming out of the somali community. You guys are so damn sensitive. Its not that Somalis are hated everywhere its that we are EVERYWHERE. There are too many damn Somali refugees at every place on earth. We will never be respected b/c Southern Somalia is a fuking complete mess.

I hope all of these people complaining/whining go back to Mogadishu and be apart of the clean up. Either have some dignity in your own country or completely be treated like crap in Western countries.
