The Kite Runner

Postby HaileyBailey » Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:14 pm

Have you guys read this book or seen the movie?

I just finished the book and I have been left with a lot of emotions. I really don't know what to say.

I haven't read the book but I've read other books by the same author, he's a decent writer.

I watched the Kite Runner film, and its one of the worst cinematic catastrophes I've ever come across. Absolutely awful. The movie is actually quite good despite the garbage propaganda...until the last 30 minutes where the main actor has the brawl with the Taliban---now, how does a San Francisco-based author defeat a group of Taliban militia with his bear fists if NATO can't harm them with the latest bombs...? :?

disturbed by the homosexual content. Is this something that happens in afghan culture or was he trying to Pervert it and try to appeal to the western audience?

He was trying to sound controversial. He overdid a lot of things in the movie to reach out to Western audiences.

He painted the Afghan Mujahideen as heroes when in fact they were just fighting for the right to grow opium. And he painted the Taliban as bad men when they fought to end the opium trade and bring stability. The movie is full of propaganda.

3 groups of people I hate are Somali, Iranian/Iranian, and Sudanese dissidents; worst propagandists in history. They always write garbage to appeal to Westerners. Just look at the author of this book and draw the similarities between him and Ayan Hirsi or Waris Dirie or other people who paint their entire culture fictionally in order to gain acclaim.

I don't know what you're talking about, but you've mentioned it twice about the mujahideen and taliban and fighting. The book and from what i've heard the movie do not address it. The book is about an Afghan Pashtoon who rapes a Hazara boy an ethnic minority in Afghanistan who are as indecated in the book, oppressed.

The rape scene in the movie is not a major part of the plot. The movie is VERY political. It focuses on Soviet invasion and post-Taliban politics.

That's why people hated the movie, the producer had his own agenda and destroyed the original plot. He went too deep into some other shit.

Yes, that's what i've heard.

But, i've already started reading "A Million LIttle Pieces" a friend of mine gave it to me and I guess it's one of those books that everyone has read at one point.

Aren't you guilty of that same crime although your intention for doing it is less obvious than the above mentioned individuals. Anyway I agree, Somali dissidents are really cheap people that should not be allowed to return to Somalia.

Qansa, what the hell are you talking about?

Waris and Ayan are international multi-millionaire public figures, I'm a starving college student in middle America.

What do I have in common with them?

No, and I don't intend to, 'cause it disparages Muslims.
