hey sup naaya lol i see wat ur doing..clever 1 ain't we

here let me dive Razz

Question: To what extent would you say Islam allows us to practise freedom of speech and do you believe we are confined to our teachings or is their an element of scriptual flexiblity?

Well freedom of speech is crucial to any healthy society and since Islam is the perfect social system then freedom of speech is practised to a great extent.
One of the main objectives of Islam is to emancipate the mind from superstitutions, the soul from sin and corruption, the conscience from oppression and fear. The course which Islam has enjoined on man to realize this goal includes profound intellectual endeavours, Allah has give us the tool to liberate and grow for the better, to fight for the right and defeat the wrong. Freedom of speech can be used as a tool to liberate ourselves from oppression, All the Prophets fought for freedom and they used freedom speech, stood up n said what was killing that society at the time facing the consequences.
The concept of freedom is article of faith, solemn commend from the Creator and it highlights another important factor in Islam Equality. Islam teachers that in the sight Allah all men are equal right…no differences of ability, potential or wealth none of these can establish a statues of superiority of 1 man or race to another. The only distinction Allah recognizes is iman, spiritual excellence. When this concept is fully utilized, it will leave no place for prejudice or oppression or suppression…so does Islam allow freedom of speech well there is no equality without freedom of speech, no man is so superior over another that he oppresses 1s intelligences and opinions..!
The ummah’ greatest achievement over the past millennium has undoubtedly been its internal intellectual cohesion. Our four madhhabs for example show the extent of freedom of thinking within the deen. Freedom of speech against Islam is a tricky subject, as we all know once Islam is criticized Muslims go mad, e.g. that Holland journalist who abused the Quran by writing it on a naked woman. A Muslim took the extreme way of killing the guy, which I personally thought was unwise and the backslash that Dutch mulims faced could have been avoided. There is nothing wrong with criticism, I say hit it with positivism n its killed, ppl are afraid to speak to Muslims on Islam because they feel we might get offended and act negatively, the truth can’t be criticised only misunderstood and that’s what Allah means when He says defend the deen. The truth can defend itself all we have to do is open our mind and express it.

we are confined to our teachings or is their an element of scriptual flexiblity?

CONFINED..!! to the Quran and sunnah 100%...but then there is the question of interpretation…ijtihad….well know that not every1 can have that power of interpreting, few would seriously deny that for a Muslim to venture beyond established expert opinion and have recourse directly to Quran and sunna, he must be a scholar of great eminence…because there is a great danger of damaging the shari’ah. In order to protect the Shari’ah from the danger of innovation and distortion, the great scholars laid down rigorous conditions which must be fulfilled by any1 wishing to claim the right of ijtihad on himself.
Some have said that ijtihad should be closed as there is no need for any new interpreations, but it open to discussion…I personal think it shouldn’t be ruled out as society changes really fast..n with social changes comes new values n meanings.
