A Minnetonka man faces sexual conduct and assault charges after he allegedly heated spoons and burned the skin of a three-year-old boy.

Hussein Osman Ahmed, 25, faces second-degree sexual conduct and third-degree assault charges.

According to the criminal complaint, the child’s mother took the boy into several hospitals after she noticed he had raised red marks on both sides of his face, back, chest, arms and legs, and genital area.

Doctors said the injuries were consistent with the handle of a heated tablespoon being pressed against the toddler’s skin.

Police at the Ahmed’s home, who lives with the child and his mother, executed a warrant in December and found several utensils matching the patterns on the boy’s skin.

Ahmed told authorities he was in the process of potty training the boy. The case was renewed after the boy told his grandmother than Ahmed was the one to hurt him.

If convicted, Ahmed faces up to 30 years in prison, a $45,000 fine, or both.
