First introduced into Australia in the 1840s to help explorers travel through the country's deserts, there are now about one million camels roaming the country, with the population doubling every nine years. They compete with sheep and cattle for food, trample vegetation and invade remote settlements in search of water, scaring residents as they tear apart outdoor toilets and rip up water pipes. Last month, the federal government set aside AU$19 million for a programme to help cut the population. Besides sending in sharpshooters in helicopters and on foot, officials are considering proposals to turn some of the creatures into tasty treats such as camel burgers.

They should gather them up and put them in quarantine. Sooner or later the Somali Pirates are going to hijack an Aussie ship. BINGO! Camel bartering. What self respecting geel jire would refuse a million camels!

We cooked Camel meat stew before and also made camel meat samosas

the meat ( not the mince) can be tough as old boots..best to marinate it overnight in ginger and spices and oil.

I do apologise for this oversight, my friend. I really don't know what came over me there! I mean I am usually considerate enough to put a smiley after all my casual gags. Never fear though. From now on I shall always try to keep your special needs in mind. (OH LOOK!  )
