I think Mogdishu was the cosmopolitan city in Somalia prior to the war.

I heard Cisman Mohamud settled that place first. They used to bring Sugar and flour to the locals from Arabia in exchange of Elephant and Tiger skin

Kismaayo was originally Baajuuni, MJ's came in the 1800's they also tried to take Marka at the time, but were defeated there

Shirib, The first guy who spotted Kismayo was Cisman Mohamud. He stopped at Kismayo shore and said, this is a wonderful place and I migh as well move here. He borough his close kinds and that's how it started

Kismayo is however a nice city. Like mog,merka it has the potential to become turistic destination.
