The international airport is on hold because the people building it do not want to be accused of terrorism supporting. Only the runways were being prepared by the time Al Shabaab took over.Don't forget that university, must be competing with Harvard and Princeton by now.

However, some parts of Gedo University were built just months before Al Shabaab took over. The guy who leads the effort is Professor Ali Warsame, professor of Electrical Engineering in Texas and the guy whose research has led to many developments including zero emissions for hybrid cars and better ice detection for aircraft wings.
