Somalian Peace Activist Assassinated

Postby IRONm@N » Tue Jul 12, 2005 1:04 pm

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- Gunmen in Mogadishu have shot dead a leading Somali peace activist who had been involved in efforts to disarm militiamen in the capital, a witness and a relative said Monday.

At least seven gunmen broke into the home of Abdulkadir Yahya, a co-director of the Center for Research and Dialogue, and killed him Monday at about 2:30 a.m., said one of his guards, who did not want to be identified for fear the killers would target him.

The guard said the assailants shackled and blindfolded all five security men at Yahya's house and then went to his bedroom and shot him in the head.

The assailants also stole Yahya's laptop computer and a small bag of gold jewelry, said Abdikarim Fodare, one of Yahya's cousins, who arrived at the house after the attack.

The organization Yahya directed is affiliated with the Geneva-based War Torn Societies Project International

sad story, wallahi to see this gangs targetting all the educated, intellecual somalis. I heard doctors, teachers and journalists killed. but I never heard a warlord or a dictator killed. this is the third peace activist killed in Mugdisho.
