Dadka qaarkood diinta waa aaminsan yihiin hase yeeshee aaminaadaasi ma ahan mid meel mar ah. Waa iska aaminaad ku sallaysan ama aan dhaafsiisneyn afka baarkiisa. Macnaha, xaallad kasta oo ay tahay inay wajahaan waxay ku dabaqaan hadba sidii la gudboon iyagoo inta badan is ilawsiinaya xilkii ka saarnaa hawllaha diinta. Sababtaas ayaa keentay baan fillayaa in naag uur lihi u soo fariisato meher. Iyada, kan mehersanaya, iyo midka meherinaya--haddiiba ay dhacdo-- sow markaas lama oran karo waa dad Adduunyo?

Your shock and disgust aside, what did you expect them to do? Demand lashes or ask to be stoned?

Engagement is a verbal agreement.

"Hey you wanna get married?"

"Yeah! Lolz"

"K, lets do it! heheheehe"

Meheris when you have the Shaykh, the witnesses and the niikax ceremony. Thats when a contract is stipulated, the gift for the girl is agreed upon (usually $$$) and after its over, they are married. But some people see it as ceeb if said couple is already gettin' down after the niikax, which doesn't make sense because in the eyes of Allah, they are already married... and they probably already went to the county/state and got a marriage contract from there too (tax relief). I think like Nabeela said, maybe they don't have their own home or whatever so its seen as ceeb.

The Aroos is just an excuse to have a party and entertainment.

Thats Somali Guur 101 for you.

Engage or Meher? Engage doesn't count but Meher is valid. Their is no need to wait your wedding night after MEHER...wax walba waa xalaal.

I think HELWAA is talking about getting knocked up before Nikaax aka Meher.

Exactly...anigu waxaan ka hadlaya naag uur yeelatay iyada oo bila meher ah

helwaa,

i know this girl who got pregnant by her boyfriend. she was the type of xalimo who was "good girl" oo jaamacad qabata and had a good reputation, so naturally she was panicking after finding out she was pregnant and was rushing to get married to the farax who knocked her up  ...her family pressured the faraxs family to front the wedding money since its "all his fault". his family was like....excuse me, u the one with the ticking belly time bomb so u better cover the cost of the wedding yourself plus find a home for them to live since his only a poor uni student and don't have a job etc..

the girl's mother ran around like a chicken without a head looking for hegbad to come up with the cash quickly..

all this trouble to "cover up" instead of facing the problem head on...

long story short... the couple divorced months after their son was born.

and also we used to have something called masaafo,,gabar layska kaxaysto ayada oo familkeeda ogeyn oo dhawr bilood lasyka soo haysto kadibna reerka loo yimaado xaalmarin loo keeno.
