Agree 100%

Alshabab took over Gedo and controls it with an Iron fist, Barre is nowhere to be seen ! desperate and confused, but does that mean you have to terrorise the Somali reputation ?

Mods delete this thread if there is any decency in you, ASAP :|

Lol @ Xoog. I think even the U.S would love it if Al Itihad was back and Al Shabaab disappeared. When the Saudi government sent Mohammed Haji Yusuf to them in 2007, he came back saying "isma fahano".
Is that the marexaan al itihaad member, former judge, who fled to Kenya after the arrival of Ethiopian forces?
Yeah he was the chairman of Al Itihad. Now he is a top cleric in Saudi. He takes assignments from that government dealing with the Islamic movements in Somalia. They sent him to see what the ICU was up and again in 2007 to see what Al Shabaab was about.

KOA

In that case you have cause to be suspicious.

Volt

Most people think Shabab appeared out of nowhere and captured most of the south when the fact of the matter is there have been forces (both external and internal) that were laying the groundwork as far back as the early 90s and possibly even late 80s.

As for the question of the number of skinnies in Al Qaeda. One doesn't have to be in Afghanistan to be a member of AQ. In fact most informed intel officers estimate the number of actual AQ members present in Afghanistan to be less than a few hundred men. The Taliban aren't short of men. What we're discussing here and what I believe Voltage was asking is, the number of Somalis who recieved that terrorist training in Afghanistan-Pakistan. Not the average footsoldier.

Exactly. I have no idea what that Ethiopian guy Nomad is talking about. So it is time we started asking how many. Obviously there is some kind of fraternity going on. Cayroow, Abu Mansuur, Abu Zubeyr, Zaylici, etc all were the handful of Somali fighters in Afghanistan and they have changed the whole political climate in Somalia by indoctrinating hundreds of Somali youth.

As for your comment about some people have been preparing this for a long time. Recently this guy was telling me how in the 90's, an African American convert who fought in Afghanistan and then came back told him nonchallantly in less than 10 years Somalia will start becoming even more central than Afghanistan. He did not understand it then but he understands it now.

Al Qaeda is banking on Western subconscious bias/racism that makes them think "Arab" extremists will stand out in Black Somalia without realizing the whole thing is an ideology and Al Qaeda itself might evolve to be less Arab dominated. Is it a coincidence Salah's rise and Somalia's rise in Al Qaeda priorities?
The diplomat said that between one-quarter to one-third of al Qaeda's units in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region are now led by non-Arabs, in a transition from "100 percent of these units which were once led by Arabs."

I am almost 100% sure, al Qaeda is a step ahead of the U.S. psychoanalyzing their own subconscious history and race relations by moving all Arab Al Qaeda to Yemen, making that the base for the middle east...all African/Black al Qaeda to Somalia, making it the base for Africa and keeping the south-Asians in Afghanistan-Pakistan.

Actually, it first started in the late 60's to early seventies where Somali students have returned from Arab countries such as Egypt where they have experienced the rising popularity of the Muslim brotherhood. They set up such groups in Somalia but where peaceful and wanted sharia law in the country. The 10 clerics executed in the 70's belonged to such groups.

Aljazeera arabic did an interview with one of the AQ leaders. replying to a question about about shab and somalia, he said they are not part of their group, but he said some of their men were trained and influenced by them. Al Sudani or something was the name he mentioned in particular. Wasn't that yemeni guy who got killed in the helicopter raid part of them too?

ps. "Wahabism" entered SOmalia almost 150 years ago.

The more appropriate question should be, how many somalis have been indoctrinated by goerge bush to talk and think like him?

They are in the thousands if not in the millions

unfortunately for them, in adeer bush's eyes all muslims are alqaida "us agains't them"

I wouldn't consider babysitting for UBL's kids as being part of Al-Qaeda.
