If these rebel groups had a noble cause, why didn't they succeed in establishing a productive government?

They can accuse him of many things, but at least he was a competent leader and Somalia was still a functioning state.

Even as a staunch critic of his regime, I would be able to say that personally he was a patriot and a decent human being. But his regime was not. The men and women who used his position to further clan agenda certainly were. His regime was Africa's most brutal regime that went to great lengths committing atrocities against its own people. MSB was a victim of his clan and in the end they abandoned him to run to Gedo while they escaped to Kenya. He died a lonely man and is a text book example why clan politics almost never works. His clan drove him to an evil position using the power of the government to play nomadic clan politics, one time bombing Hargaisa to the ground, and other times massacring the people of Mudug and poisoning their wells.

He honestly deserves our sympathy and forgiveness

Mission 1 accomplished. Next he will admit hawiye are inherently bad people and USC is to blame for all the bad things that hapened to us. then he will follow it with campaigning for darood to be given back the leadership since they are the only ones that can lead. I agree with you that Somalia could've done better and we deserved a better government. My argument here is, sometimes its better the devil you know than the one you don't know. MSB was one individual, his administration consisted of numerous individuals who used it for their own personal agendas & to score personal vendettas. Its very simplistic to pin all of the mayhem on a man who was well in to his 70s.

Not to mention that we at least had a government. I was 12 years old in 1990 and remember what it was like to grow up in a peaceful Somalia, go to a free school, go to isbitaal Digfeer for medical treatment free of charge, go to Baraawe for vacations, go to a soccer match at Stadium Muqdisho, listen to Radio Muqdisho in our car, etc.

All of it was lost for the greed of a few individuals.
