So whose fault is it ? Are we stupid ?
Somalis are no longer in control of their fate.
Just wake up from decades long coma?

Yes, of course Somalis have been the laughing stock for a long time. And no, we control our fate collectively and decided to be where we are today. How can we allow to call these old men who are holed up in the former presidential palace a government? They have no control whatsoever and the the whole world knows about it. Whether we like it or not, the real stake holders are:
1-Somaliland;
2-Puntland,
3- Religious groups who control most of the country.

How long are we going to be oblivious to the fact that this and preceding/future TNG govs are rubber stamps with no authority or power in the country. They cannot even control Mogadishu let alone the whole country. If Mogadishu cannot be tamed, then it should not hold the rest of the country hostage.

Ironman,

Like who ?

D-Runner,

It was the dumb leading the blind.

HutuKing01,

That is not going to happen anytime soon. We need a benevolent dictator like Marshall Tito.

Ciyaalwarta,

  In the end, nothing is going to work out until Obama and Osama leave us alone.

Good job !
Now they should elect someone that is competent and vigour
Put a sock in it; I'm sure Shariif will live to regret his decision today.

Family wise: Sharmake is the son of the former second President and first Prime Minister of Somalia, Abdirashid Ali Shermarke, who was assassinated in 1969, and Ruqia Dahir Ali Boss, the daughter of a well-known Somali Islamic scholar.

Education wise: He studied at Carleton University in Ottawa, where he obtained degrees in political science and political economy.

Experince: He has worked in a diplomatic capacity for the United Nations in Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone, and served as a political advisor on the Darfur conflict in Sudan. Before becoming Prime Minister, Sharmarke was Somalia's ambassador-designate to the United States.

D-Runner,

Cumar Cabdirashid looks good on paper but should have stayed away from this mess. He would have made a more fitting PM in a civilized peaceful SOmalia than this zoo.

Warya,

The heart of a nation is its capital. Unless Mogadishu is peaceful, the regions will be held hostage. So it is in the interest of those regions to promote peace in Mogadishu rather than being oblivious or in some cases undermining the cause of a central government.

Ultimately, unless Somalis see this point, the status quo will remain.

awahab,

I think we agree on at least one thing: our future is in our hands and our actions determine our fate.

Instead of rushing to building a sure-to-fail governments, why don't we at least for once try to look at other alternatives - maybe start from bottom up. According to wikipedia, Somalia TNG was first formed in 2000. Ten yeast and many leaders later they are still holed up in a bunker.

I never trusted TNG because I know it is built to fail.

waryaa,

There are three sole power brokers in Somalia:

1. The UN Representative for Somalia & the UNDP

2. Meles Zenawi

3. The Foreign Islamist Element

The rest are mere puppets in the tragedy called Somalia.

Bottom up is a good approach but how do you get these states to work with each other. How do you prevent them from fighting each other ? Or collaborating with Ethiopia whose aim is to undermine Somali nationalism ?

Awahab, u r right and sadly that makes u, me and every other Somali mentally incapable of self-governance.

None of the 500+ parliamentarians represents his/her constituency. Many of them, including Sharif himself cannot venture out and visit where they say they represent. What a farce!

Good analysis
It can only be madness, hypocrisy and spite that is stopping people from acknowledging the obvious and engaging with those who have real power Somaliland, Puntland and the religious groups.

Waryaa,

Do you really believe you can govern in SOmalia for an extended period of time ? If its not the criminal element that gets you, the cut throat politics will kill you

Puntland is slowly losing its role as a power broker, and Somaliland was never a power broker. It wasn't a power broker during the federal era, what would make it a power broker today?

Today and the next 5 years to come, the power brokers in the south will be the various Hawiye and Rahanweyn groups, Marehan, and Ogaden. Puntland will only play a role if those groups figure out a good formula to rule the Xamar and the rest of the south properly.
