Bodhi,
most Budhists I met, which happened to be Asian believ that Buddha is god. So your religion is confusing to say the least.
But for the enlightened one, he got depressed one day, had some sort of mid life crisis thing and decided he needed to go find the truth. So he abandoned his family, left his wife and children, to go find this truth and he went and meditated and what not. What's happening to his family at this point, lord knows.
But through his journey he found that the key to happiness is to not want anything. Anyone who doesn't have worldldy desires will be happy. So the preaching revolves around being unselfish, and not desiring much.
For someone who's supposed to be preaching unselfishness, abandoning your family is probably the most selfish thing one can do.
So did I get the jist of the story right, or do you worship the fat guy?
And if you don't worship the fat guy, is there a God in this Buddhist religion?
