You're right, but is it wrong for me to prefer one over the other?

When i was a child, i used to go to a malcaamad where the teachers were reer waqooyi. When my family moved to another area, i had to go to another malcaamad where the teachers were reer Koonfureed. They way they taught quraanka over there was very different.

I knew the alif, ba etc etc but for some reason they wanted me to learn it the way they are accustomed to.

And so i was introduced to Alif wax male, ba hoosta halle iyo wax aan faahmin.
