Postby Monk-of-Mogadishu » Sat Sep 25, 2010 9:33 pm

Press Release

25 September, 2010

Puntland government welcomes the United States's significant policy shift towards Somalia, aimed at building new relations with the stable parts of Somalia.

The new USA aggressive engagement with functioning and stable administrations will encourage the establishment of other regional administrations, which is in line with the long advocated Puntland policy of bottom-up approach of administrations building.

The new USA stated area of engagement, such as water, agriculture, health, eduction and other development initiatives and activities are very encouraging and highly appreciated.

Puntland Government is fully committed to continue to fight piracy and all forms of extremism and terrorism for which it seeks a tangible regional and international cooperation. Puntland is also committed to accelerate the decentralisation, democratisation process and to safeguard the wellbeing of its citizens.

Sxb the world is full of empty promises. Do you remember back to 2007 when EU promised to invest 500 million into Somaliland . Every time they establish new TFG an empty promise, with no intention of keeping it.

In my opinion, Puntland/Somaliland should be very careful when opening their doors for one side of a global conflict. Clear American presence will bring more suicide bombers and all that havoc alqaeda/shabab are capable of.

Instead of destabilising the region more, why not Obama/US.UN try to go to Shabab head on in southern Somalia which borders friendly Ethiopia and Kenya. If Puntland should stand tall and say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. American presence in Bosaso and Garowe is a suicidal mission for all Puntland. This region can get by as long as its cash cow (bosaso) is uninterrupted and it doesn't need any tainted handouts. Peace is much more important than infrastructure. America may bring some projects taht will enrich US companies more than the average Somali in Puntland but will it take away the relative peace?
