Puntland lobbying hard to prevent prime minister from Sade.

Postby Voltage » Fri Oct 08, 2010 1:38 am

On Thursday, President Sharif hosted more than 40 government officials, including MPs and Cabinet ministers, at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu where he announced that he plans to appoint a new Prime Minister from Gedo region, home to the Marehan clan of Darod clan-family...

According to this very reliable source, President Sharif’s advisers were quoted as saying that “Somaliland and Puntland” have their own governments and that Sharif “should ally” with southern Darod communities, like the Marehan clan.

The source stated that appointing Mr. Saa’id Shirdon as Prime Minister of TFG was a “compromise candidate” among the three short-listed individuals. President Sharif’s advisers have advanced Mr. Shirdon as PM candidate because they see him as “anti-federalism” – the number one issue at the root of the Sharif-Sharmake political dispute...

Puntland politicians in Mogadishu, who work for the TFG, have already expressed their frustration and some are planning to return home to Puntland. ..

If this guy is named, he has the power to do a lot now with the Ugandans promising more troops, the constitution being implemented where he can influence dramatically (the reason Shermarke was forced out), Dollow troops speeding up their campaign getting visits by IGAD and UN, with Goonjeex the most powerful minister in the cabinet, and Gen Cali Madoobe as the Police Commissioner and Sheikh Sharif's closest confidante, all with Shabaab's unity disintegrating.

I just realized Majeerteen does not have a single influential member in the current TFG. :|

Voltage,

Your title is very misleading, the issue Puntland has with the named candidate has nothing to do with his clan, rather it has everything to do with his stands on federalism.

D-Runner, this is basically blackmail on Puntland's part:
However, one can foresee numerous obstacles in President Sharif’s plan to appoint a new PM from regions under the control of extremists, as the new PM will not have any constituency or home region to call a base.

http://horseedmedia.net/2010/10/07/soma ... d-opinion/
Can you understand how much this has probably been lobbied by Puntland in the last couple days? If the PM is still appointed from Gedo, it is basically a slap in the face to Puntland saying we have tried you and there is nothing you can contribute to the TFG.

This is a joke. It can't work. Voltage, why do you waste your time with these topics when you know the outcome will be predictable?
