Was to use the latin script as the basis of written language. It was a terrible mistake, and we should of used the arabic one, but instead they fell for the western illusion.
I belief, it was the best decision Ziyad Barre's regime did....though the work was done by intellectuals and educators of the time. Education and literacy exploded as the language became a written...as an example; SKOOLADII QASABKA where thousand school kid were learning basic education in their own mother tongue, OHRM(OLOLAHA HURUMARINTA REER MIYAGA)...Short for OLOLIHI IN 1974-1975..Where thousand were taught how to read and write at the country side. A newspaper that anybody can read, Not Italian or Arabic...There was no western illusion, just simple and easy way of writting ones own language.....B T J X KH D .......A E I O U , AA...you know the rest

i agree with perfect order if we did not use ,, the gadabuursi script or usmaniya script something unique for somalis
Just like Eritrean and Ethiopians have their own alphabet

we should of used arabic because before the somali language was written down in latin somalis used to write in arabic , evne their so called poems made in in the 19 century and begin 20 century we all used to write it in arabic , i have a book my grandfather wrote in the mid 19 century it was written in arabic , arabic script would of been better

wouldn't it be too costly for a poor country to use the arabic script? what are the benefits of using the arabic script as opposed to the latin one?
The Imperialist/Colonialists wantedto replace the Islamic alphabet with their own. Destroying the Arabic alphabet is part of a larger conspiracy to destroy all Islamic traditions, beliefs and they were succesful in that.Having an Arabic alphabet would have, idealy, given us a different world view, becuase of the acces to Islamic litrature
Why are you complaining about the big bad colonialists when you take borders that were devised by some white guys using a ruler in some smoky room as though they were divine?

I dont need to know you personally to judge the views you express here. You support the borders imposed by colonialists over the decisions made by Somali's for Somali's -- markaasaad ka cabaadeesa the scheming of colonialists with regards to Somali's -- thats inconsistent -- i was pointing this out tis all :|

So the boarder for Somalia was made by Somalis miyaa,
if you believe that then your obviously deluded
And the latin scrypt wasn't a wholly Somali decision btw there was heavy funding by the Europeans for the latin choice against other scrypts that were on the table at the time
You only have to do a bit of readin to find that out

The decision to unite, thereby making new borders, was Somali made; northern I believe.
