Ijtihad…is the gate closed in our period of time.

Postby +chilli » Mon Aug 15, 2005 4:41 am

Am just curious…is it just me or is the ummah asleep.

Do we have mufti or islam judges who have full qualifications & are competent in ijtihad on particular question that are new, because society does change and new problems do come up we can’t always apply to the past or can we?

From my limited knowledge I don’t think Islamic scholarship has accepted any1’s claims to absolute ijtihad since the imams, Hanifa, Malik, Shafi’I and Ahmed.

I know its dangerous ground to be a self proclaimed expert in ijtihad…but we should at-lest lean towards that way..its time our ilams woke up and voiced some opinions and should be criticised…there is enough confusion in our ummah already.

so are the gates closed?

Salaams Sis

Im sure there are many scholarly-academics that are competent in the field of ijtihad, i think one question could be brought to light is whether they actually got the balls to get on the pulpit and voice their opinions on issues just as you mentioned which are intermittently sidelinded or bascially left unattended. I honestly see a pattern of montorium within the the muslim academics on crucial and nail biting issues, and were having to see ordinary muslims up on the platform sharing the very values and opinion we stand by--and then they are scrutinised for not having the sound knowledge or a bloody 'title' as a jurist or watever even though the very belief they stand for is actually expressed ardently in our texts.I'd love to really get my teeth into the scholary system (if there is one) and just pay close attension on the damn thing works, coz no-one seems to be doing anything.

''so are the gates closed?''

They are never closed, just some bozo blocking the passage way! Laughing --Istagfirallah

Just watched that interview, really disappointed. What do you think about the term soo used lightly 'moderate'? and how anyone who condemns the 7/7 bombings is a moderate.

i could never express a strong disapproval of what happend but common-sense tells you its wrong, The media loves to Highlight speeches of meaningless sheikhs/Imans such as Omar Bakri and the Qatada bastard to stirr the already rapid tensions up even further, thats like going to a white packed racist area and interview all those white scums what they think about Blacks and select and broadcaste only those who have made extremist comments, thats exactly what the media is doing today against the Muslims and it certainly angering the public

Smooth your right all we see is ppl like Iqbal Sacranie who are political motivated, I don’t thing that guy comes into this category, he just wants to please the majority, but I do admire his courage to stand and speak unlike the others, although he is trying to accommodate, making the climate of doubt surrounding Muslims even worst. Any form of accommodating is high crime for Muslims anyhow, you can’t be seen to concede within society , I don’t know if its out of fear, more ground to be attacked so cocoon yourself or keep the faith loyal & strange as it came strange ..either way its keep the kufir out not giving them any ground to understand us..what are the 2 reasons Allah created men..1) to worship Him and 2) to get to know each other.

Hey Amat-Allah sup waalal

So your saying we do have masters in this area they just cocooning themselves from the ummah? Why what of, am talking about within our own community forget the kufir, are these muftis scared to speak within our own community fear to be judged and criticised?
Ok the example of Traiq Ramadan addressing the issue of ‘hudud’ punishments….why did it take so long for that to be brought into light and when it was highlighted it had it come from non jurist?, how could the jurists who observe and study this field over look the mass misuse and abusing of these laws?

I know what you mean about the ordinary Muslims going on the platform and getting scrutinised for it, that’s why am asking where are the scholars, or is this that sign of qiyamah ‘where students are asked questions instead of the scholars’ amongst us.

Do Muslims get offended when some1 mentions that some of the hadiths need to be re-anaylsed...put under critical thinking once again?

some see critical analysis as watering down the fate...and accuse those who mention it of blaspheming....
