Somalis never cease to amaze me

Postby grandpakhalif » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:36 pm

In my area different tribes have specific mosques to go to. So tribe A would build a mosque and people from primarily tribe A would go there. Although other tribes can attend everyone from tribe A would only give sadaqah and attend to tribe A's mosques

Tribe B would then build their mosque and everyone from that tribe will only donate to their mosque.

Well shiek Faisal (Jamaican Wadaad) once talk about how qabiil is practiced like how religion should be practiced amongst Somalis. SMH!
I have a cousin who's wadaad, finished the quran at young age and leads the mosque sometimes, oneday after he finished leading the salaat. he came outside only to see old man staring at him. The old man approached him and was like "adeer hada waad fiicantahay but aakhirkaa faa'iido malihid", my poor cousin didnt even understand what he meant until a friend broke it down for him.

Its like that everywhere. Mosques here aren't divided by sects, but along the lines of Majerteen & Habar Gidir. A few years ago the Majerteen mosques were moderate and the Habar Gidir were radicals, now its the exact opposite due to Somalia's changing politics.

Nothing wrong with going to the mosque of your tribe. Again, people---tribe here is not the evil. Also, Gatsby-----stop mis-interpreting things. It doesnt mean qabil comes first before religion. No, it only means--qabil is a community. Allaah created, languages, races, qabils and communities so that people would gather in brotherhood. No one will be punished for visiting a mosque built by their qabil. Its doesnt matter at all. The fact that u go to a mosque, be among a collection of muslims praying---that is all that matters. Qabil is a unifying thing. It is a community. If you want to donate to the mosque of your qabil, go ahead. The point is you have donated, period. Even in Quran, we are encouraged to donate to closest relatives and the closest neightbor. Prophet Mohammed PBUH encourages family to be helped first, then neighbors and the promixity goes on. Lets get real here.
