Aguardiente you are wrong. Brazil would not have declared without knowing if the rest of Latin America would follow and the rest of Latin America would not have declared without their regional superpower giving them cover. Any coincidence a day after Brazil, Argentina declared? This wasn't a last minute move by Lula. The next Brazil president is the most closest person to him in his government and the person he picked as his heir. Besides the State of Palestine is now recognized by all the upcoming superpowers. China recognizes it, so does Russia, India, and now Brazil. Most of Africa, Eastern Europe, and now Latin America. Mexico is expected next and even Israel said if Mexico does, the wave will be unstoppable. To be recognized as a state you need 3/4 of member states voting for you. It is close to that number now which is why Israel calls Salam Fayyad's diplomacy "soft intifada".
This is exactly how Apartheid south Africa went down. First the third world, then eastern countries, finally Western Europe then America. ceeb Cheney was voting Mandela as a terrorist in the 80's when Britain was putting sanctions.
The fight is now going towards Europe. Norway which is not part of EU just upgraded the Palestinian representative to "Ambassador" this month and Germany put a proposal that calls for EU recognition of a Palestinian state in pre-1967 borders. America of course will be last.
