For those who don't know, Geri Koombe is Daarood Ismaaciil. They settle in Jigjiga, Hawaas and Dirir Dawa. They mostly border with Jidwaaq Absame, Ogaadeen, Mareexaan, Dhulbahante, MJ, Leelkase, Gare, HA, Samaroon, Karanle Hawiye, Booran, and Jaarso (Oramo communities).

During the Fatxuulal Xabuush, they had the largest contingent in that jihaad. The Aabo Yoonis subclan of Geri Daarood has spread Islaam in all of Somali territories. You will find them in all of Somali territories including Ogadenia, DJibouti, Somalia and NFD. Very big clan but dispersed in many locations. Their chieftains follow Garaad crowns just like Dhulbahante and Bartire.

When Somalis were pushing out the Galla and Amharas out of the territories we inhabit today, the Garaad of Gerri Koonbe was leading the Daarood armies and in those days DIR communities did have an Ugaas who was their chief and he was leading the DIR armies.
