Why al shabab can't take over H/Gidir ?

Postby ababanoah » Fri Dec 31, 2010 4:17 am

They captured almost south except the central , (home of habargidir).they passed over tribes such as ogaden, jareer, raxanweyn, dir, gaaljecel, marexan, biimaal, murusade, abgaal, xawadle, badicade, wacdaan, iyo jeejeele. They failed to seize Habargidir land. Why It is so hard for al shabab to control H/gidir territories ? Why they are wasting their time and blood to mogadishu (home of the amisom) ? So now HG is the enemy of shabab from now on,because they are the last enemy until puntland.one more tribe to sheikh atam.dig it!

There is a coalition really, but if the wall before them breaks,i don't know how long of it's resistance.what we want to know is how al shabab would face iljeex ? will they promise them for money ? or will they rob and slash them by force just like they did to other tribes ? if alshabab disarmed hassan aweys and his party,do you think they can not do the same to HG even in their homeland ?

Al-Shabaab hasn't shown much interest in going after the regional states, probably in order to not overextend themselves.

There is a box-in policy that was placed on them in the middle of 2008. It was US Defense Secretary Robert Gates who stated that they should be boxed-in and not be allowed to reach Galkacayo and go beyond. He made this comment after he met Meles Zenawi in Ethiopia in 2008. Initially, Al-Shabaab was pushing hard to pass thru Galguduud but reality of their military numbers and the size of their opposing foes has set in. In May 2010, when major battles were taking place in Galguduud, AMISOM and TFG opened an offensive in Mogadishu and Kenya also massed troops along Somali / Kenyan border with her Somali allies. There were also military skirmishes along the fake Somali and Ethios border that lie these Somali regions: Gedo, Bakool, and Hiiraan. So it is not just HG standing on their way but whole host of many factors.

It seems Al-Shabaab has made a breakthrough in its current unification with HI since some of the HG territories were already under XI-allied admin like Ximan and Xeeb and some of the towns were already run by XI like Xarardheere. The latest news is they have sent troops to Hobyo. No sure if that news is true but that is floating around on Somali websites. To fully seize Guriceel and Dhuusamareeb is all depends how they please oday Sheekh Hassan Daahir and if they will allow him to run the Shura council within this 'unification' between Al-Shabaab and XI.

Keep in mind the head of Al-Shabaab is an SLer so there is a question whether he and his allies are also a factor in preventing the move towards northern regions.

Whatever the reasons, it is very obvious they don't have the military strength to seize all Somali territories while they are under military pressure from many fronts.

Nothing to take away from H/Gedir warrior spirit. Alshabab's main focus is on Muqdisho. They control Muqdisho then they will have no problem seizing else where including central region. Although you're right with those few men they have been able to overwhelm huraale and his ilkoyar crew on numerous occasions.

Also the Ahlul sunna wal Jamacca are equally fanatics. :D Waa waali-waali ka hor gey.

One thing that people (who are not from the place they are speaking of) do not know is the people from Galgaduud and Mudug are hardcore sufi. Maybe you heard about xirta timoweyn. This people are almost 100% anti-alshaydan, while people from other southern part of the country have soft spot for alshaydan. Remember altihad was preaching their version of Islam in the south even after they were dispersed.

My relatives in Galgadud wallahi believe if they die in a war with alshaydan they will end up in heaven, because their holy graves (not real, but close) are what the alshaab is coming for. Some even went back to support thier sufi brothers.

I believe 1 HG can not defend from alshabab but 5 HG can do that just aideed era. But what alshabab is playing now is "divide and rule"that indicates when they confiscated harardhere, their leader threatened to galmudug administration while calling them murtid administration. And seems like they want to start the game galmudug althought their administration kept silent about the new threat as well the weak ximan iyo xeeb administration.Today there is no two HG with the same allied.why? Or these people they unite when their enemy scares them ?

General Qeybdiid aka Sheik Abdi Hassan Awale aka Abdinastex will destroy them once again. His arrival into Galmudug will bolster the HG alliance against the Al Qacida
