Al Shabaab officials arrested on theft charges

Postby Coeus » Fri Jan 07, 2011 10:00 am

The officials were accused of stealing nearly $10,000 intended to aid drought-affected Somalis in central Somalia.

Somalia’s Al Shabaab militant group has detained regional leaders of the group in the Galgudud region of central Somalia after being charged with stealing money, local elders said Friday.

Sheikh Khadar, Al Shabaab’s Eldher district commissioner, and two other officials were taken into custody following search operations in the village of Masagawaa.

The officials were accused of stealing 300 million Somali shillings (US$9,677) which is said to have been intended to aid drought-affected Somalis in central Somalia.

No comments about the incident were immediately available from Al Shabaab’s administration in the region.

The event comes as many regions in southern and central Somalia have been hit by severe droughts after a shortage of rain for more three years.

Al Shabaab has banned more than 20 aid agencies from operating in south-central Somalia.

From 2000 till today the world had spent 100s of millions of dollars on Somali transitional government and 100s of never fulfilled $$$ contracts have have been signed by the TFG officials. Nobody has even been arrested for stealing even though most if not all that money went to private pockets, somalis and non somalis alike. Even today, Government officials are divided over suspected missing money from Mogadishu seaport, national bank and Mogadishu city authority.

Shababs demonstrated their ability to deal with crooks in their midst.

What tax? Don't lie to make a point. Roadblock thiefs (TFG) do that.

Farming tax in Shabelle, Gedo and Jubooyinka, Shops owned by poor people are taxed, BM cars taxed. Regarding roadblock its for cutting cars going through specific roads, that go to government controlled areas and they don't tax any1!!!

Khwaarij will be killed and they will be doom in this life and next life!!!!!!!!!!!!!
