Abdisamad, taking livestock by force ain't good, its haram. Al shabab should take livestocks for those that can afford it. You can't call it tax, only the government can take tax and tax are taken should be taken from big businesses not poor people. Do unemployed or poor people pay tax? NO.

Are you f-king serious? Zakah comes from a persons own will to donate to poor people. Thats what Zakah is. But taking a poor mans stock by force and possibly killing him, so you can give it to another poor man is not Zakah. :?

Al-shabab Militia Takes Away Livestock by Force

Al-shabab militia group is collecting livestock from the nomads living in the reserves of the Lower Juba region in Southern Somalia.

Al-shabab representatives who are taking away the animals contrary to the will of the owners claim that they are collecting the annual Islamic Zakat.

A local elder, Mr. Nuh Abdale Nunow told radio Bar-kulan that the militia is also forcing them to financially support their mission which they called the Jihad they are carrying out in Somalia.

Some of the livestock keepers in the lower Juba regions have already started fleeing their area where Al-shabab is carrying out the exercise of collecting Zakat by force to support their mission.

Most of the nomads who originally came from the North Eastern province of Kenya and the Gedo region in Somalia said that they will return to their former grazing areas to escape the harsh rule of Al-shabab.

Zakât: A certain fixed proportion of the wealth and of the each and every kind of the property liable to Zakât of a Muslim to be paid yearly for the benefit of the poor in the Muslim community. The payment of Zakât is obligatory as it is one of the five pillars of Islam. Zakât is the major economic means for establishing social justice and leading the Muslim society to prosperity and security. [See Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol. 2, Book of Zakât (24)]

Paying zakat is Fard (compulsory). The Qur'an says that only those who pay zakat are in the "brotherhood of faith". The Holy Qur'an also says that Zakat purifies assets and creates virtue ( SU:9 103 ). Zakat is a 2.5% levy on most valuables and savings held for a full year if their total value is more than a basic minimum known as nisab. At present nisab is $1,050 or an equivalent amount of any other currency. Cash money in your bank and building society accounts, and the release value of bonds, securities and shares in any form are zakatable if they are purchased as an investment
