Many Somalis do not know but Rendille is the closest language to Somali after the Maay language.

They are from a South Somali tribe who migrated to central Kenya many centuries ago and some mixed with Samburu but many still retained elements of their prehistoric Somali history.

Ever since Garaman brought them to our attention, I really believe they are a group of Somalis who branched off really early, pre-Islam and intermixed with the Nilotes of Kenya like the Samburu and Masai. Maybe they were part of Ajuuraan.

I agree, but the Ajuuraan are relative newcomers to the south, they migrated there after they were defeated by various groups and driven from central Somalia, their original home.

According to Christian Bader's book, Rendille is Randiil 'Irroole 'Umar Maatay Digil Daysame Amarre Sabe, which makes their closest relatives the Dabarre, who also have their own dialect of Maay.

Rendille originate in Southern SOmalia according to some academics and even some of their elders. I guess they resemble how some Somalis would have looked like without Islam.

Pate who's reer Dinla
means folks without religion (Islam).

They settled with Samburu and lost the religion but maintained some of their somaliness.
