Murax, from never to 20 years. That is an improvement. We may moan about it and get disheartened once in a while but if we completely give up, who's supposed to do it?

Of all the lands on earth to pick as their home why did the ancient somalis have to pick the driest? If you are constantly looking for food and water to feed your lifstock and people you're never gonna settle down. If you never settle down and form an agricultural community you will never be able to form a government for the poeple. If you can't form authority, security, rules and be able to secure food and water, you will never have a civilization with doctors, engineers, soldiers etc. The problem with somalis is that they picked a land that made sure they wouldn't be able to establish the fundamentals a civilization needs. What are the similarites between the Mesopatamians, ancient egyptians, chinese, indians, greeks and the romans? They all have abundant resources in terms of rivers and fertile farmland. They can afford to feed a whole nation not just a small clan or subclan. They have enough resources to devote their skills and efforts to have engineers, doctors, scientists etc. instead of constantly looking for fresh pastures and water.
True

And if you understand the problem you can find a solution.

Walaalo, I have not read the paragraph you have responded to but since this was the last reply i got after BV gave you the  , I couldn't help but wonder even though your line of thought is okay but didn't you know that the strategic position of Somalia have made her one of the most important centers of Commerce worldwide! It was like NY of our times!

Are you half Arab as well?

ps

Abdi's response was spot on with regards to the lack of stability for most Somali tribes. You're right in that Somalia is, and has always been, at a very strategic location, nevertheless the lack of basic food and water has made most of the nomadic and inland bound tribes blind to the fact.

Well, that is if you insist they live in a vacum, aliens to their own surroundings, and that is just is not quite true of the Somali nature I come to know. Walaalo, we are gossip circles and the reer badiyo that has never seen a tv, would know what is going on in DC.

Are you half Arab as well?
I am full blooded Somali. But still down with that comment

Technically speaking, gossiping about other people and living and learning from them are different. You know I think if there was an irrigation system in the Central/Northern regions, the people who live there would be much more amiable and less prone to causing havoc.

And my comment to Hyper remains, maybe you can teach the brother about Somali history and instill some loyalty in the guy. If anyone can, you can, even in Arabic if you'd like

Hyper is Somali, if your dad is Somali...you are Somali and he is from one of the more well known religious families from Somalia.

I'm glad someone sees it my way

Executive, thats true... but the aim wasn't to make some big country....the whole Somaliweyn started later on after he died.

I stick to my statement that the way Somalia is currently constructed today is the way it was before the Great Scramble for Africa. Every little qabil looking for their own interest and there is no sense of nationalism.

Abdiwahab, you just called all the people over there savages... I haven't done that... I'm just speaking facts not hating.

That is what the Mad Mullah did, btw,. He went abroad, learnt from others and tried to implement what he learnt when he returned home.

And by the way, the Mad Mullah is what attracted me to learn about the Somali history. After I finished high school, I borrowed couple of history books on Somalia from the Somali embassy. And as I read, I would ask my parents about it and since both of them are from two different tribes, I could get two different versions  uptill when I started to ask about the Mad Mullah and weirdly enough they both agreed to discredit him to a certain degree. And voila, the idea started in my head, the guy must be GOOD  And though I might not 100% agree on his ways but I just love him, may Allah have mercy on his soul.
