i think they are indigenous to the riverine regions..
we are the immigrants into the area..
when the arabs and persians were founding moqadishu and other coastal cities, they encountered bantus not somalis or oromos.
You must be kidding, they are not even indigenous to Kenya, forget about Somalia!

what about shungawayo?

what about shungawayo?
There were people in Kenya before the Bantus came, but they were completely unrelated to Bantus.

Look at this study, they compared the skulls of modern Bantu Kenyans with skulls of ancient Kenyans. They concluded that there is no racial continuity between recent Bantu East African skulls and these prehistoric remains.

i am not talking about 7000 years ago..
i am talking about recent events..

600 AD to 1200AD..

by 1200AD shungawayo was conquered by nomads.. i am assuming here borana and somalis..
shungwayo included the juba and shebele valleys and the coasts...

the arabs refered to the area near moqadishu as zanj and they found it no different than mombasa or zanzibar..
The somalization of the area is quite recent and happened after 1000AD.

You should travel to Northern Kenya. It is full of all kinds of Cushitic tribes who are not Somali. It was never Bantu territory.

The Bantus did not live in Somalia before 300 years ago. They are immigrants.

the bantu expansion is well known from cameroon all the way to kenya, but they did not stop in kenya, they reached all the way to the shabelle..
The cushites they found in their way did not have iron weapons and they were swept aside or assimilated..

I am assuming you are refering to the Iraqw near the ngorogongo crater Tanzania?

but these are not somalis or oromos..

when the somalis expanded into the area we ran into the bantu who were there before us.

It is a possibility, but there is little evidence yet.

Most Bantus in Somalia do not even look like the Kenyan Bantus but they look the people from Mozambique. I am sure in the future there will be a study on them, and they will probably match haplotypes from Mozambique/Malawi more so than Kenyans.

I leaning towards that most of them are a product of the Arab slave trade and not natural immigrants.
