Somali elders in Ogaden arrested and tortured as we speak

Reports from the Ethiopia’s ethnic Somali region say that Ethiopian soldiers have arrested at least ten Somali traditional elders in Eel Gibir in the region.

The Ethiopian soldiers are reported to have taken away the elders to Geladi town in Eastern Ethiopia, while disrupting the movement of people and transport system in the course of the operation.

Elders in the region have confirmed the incident, and said they have no idea of the reasons for the behavior of the Ethiopian soldiers.

The elders said no attempts have so far been made to follow up the case.

Ethiopian soldiers carry out operations in the Somali populated region arresting people and confiscating vehicles.
