Interesting debate I was listening on the Jeremy Vine show. How the murdoch scandal took all the coverage instead of real world disasters

Most callers were sick of bailing out another African country, in this case Somalia. Corruption, war and recession at home has made people lose all sympathy for Somalia. Shid even most somalis were feeling appathetic until news reports evoked a little emotion in em.

I always listen to our national radio on my way to school every morning...and they were talking about the Murdoch case. I had to stop listening to music on my way back which I normally do to get an in-depth analysis of what the hell was going on. I actually never thought British scandals were not important in the US at all...

I'm missing British Drama's. Can't wait for Febuary. I remember last scandal when some of the MP's got caught stealing taxes and one MP bought porn or sumting and it got on the headlines. u will see all weird things with british politics.

Despite the fact I don't want them to be apathetic at this moment, the reality is can you blame them? I mean seriously. They are undergoing bad economic times with fiscal crisis unseen since the Great Depression and here you have intractable third world countries like Somalia with recurrent drought and famine, high population growth, civil instability, piracy threatening world trade, and you need to keep feeding them money that is precious today. I mean look at Samatr's typical victimized entitled mentality. That's exactly why we can't feed ourselves and don't have a political situation that can rectify any problems we might face. We rarely take responsibility for our own failures.

Yeah walahi I agree, Ruunti I was appathetic until some news reports on the BBC built up a little emotion in me and I'm obviously somali. I can't blame them, imagine you were giving money to an alcoholic relative that never improved his situation, wouldnt you get a little pissed off. The solutions / causes for all of Somalias problems lies in somalia. The more you ask for handouts the less people have sympathy for you

More evoking images need to come out of the media and it should be headline news. There was a huge donation for Haiti earthquake and it can be done now, if we can prevent the death of women and children, then it does not matter which continent they are in.

Whats happening is Aid Fatigue – this is a new phrase being thrown around in the media which explains peoples apathy. Over the past 30yrs droughts & famine have hit Africa countless times, after a while you get desensitized by it.

Why should we rely, and take that extra step and blame the west? I don't think we should expect the west to help Somalia. You are not white, neither christain so why should they help you? I say its time we took responsibility and solved our own problems.
