Al-Shabaab Fighters Hiding Throughout Mogadishu

At least two Transitional Federal Government (TFG) soldiers died and two others were injured as TFG and African Union peacekeeping (AMISOM) troops fought against al-Shabaab militants in Yaaqshid district of Mogadishu on Sunday, witness said.

The conformation erupted after the al-Shabaab militia launched an attack on TFG and AMISOM bases in Baar-Ayaan junction, Yaqshiid police station, Hotel Towfik and a former German technical college, which TFG seized on Sunday.

“Al-Shabaab attacked TFG and AMISOM bases using heavy gunfire. They killed two TFG soldiers and took the body of one soldier,” said a Yaaqshid resident on the condition of anonymity. “The insurgents did not desert from the capital. They are in every house in Yaaqshid and Gubta districts”.

The deputy Commander of Somali National Forces, Abdikarin Yusuf Dhego Badan, confirmed to Somalia Report that two of his soldiers were injured during the firefight, but denied any soldiers died.

“Some elements from al-Shabaab are still hiding themselves in the houses, but we understand all their tactics,” he said. “They wanted us to think they vacated from the capital, but we know they have left fighters behind to launch attacks.”

“We will reach all their bases, but carefully, because they left every village 30 or 40 fighters to fulfill their plan,” he added.

Meanwhile TFG forces have today entered Daynile district, stadium Mogadishu, Misaanka-Dhuhusha village as well as most of Warshadaha Street, and trying to slowly spread the capital.

That does not sound very reliable. Could be Al Shabaab propaganda (the ones claiming they saw dead TFG soldiers).

If Sharif is smart, he will arm the clan militias to patrol the streets and go after the radicals. It was clan militias that liberated Hodan and Wardhigley, but alas we are not dealing with a rational being. This none sense pisses me the fuck OFF

I don't think that would even be part of any future negotiations.

My family still has all the official documents of their Mogadishu villas, any Hawiye squatters currently living there can be easily kicked out if law and order returns.

I foresee hundreds of thousands in Mogadishu becoming homeless.

thats only good in gobolada but not Xamar, the capital might have a certain majority clan i.e. abgaal, duduble and reer xamar. but it also has its diversity, don't forget this city was in war for 20years, in dagaalka la qabiileysiyo ma aha. i like it this way, for example there are many army leaders that are different tribes from mareexaan to xawaadle to dir. lets all unite to defeat al-shabaab, trust me bro 'gacmo wadajr bey wax ku qabtaan'.

guul bro  :som:

i agree with u "gacmo wadajir bey wax ku qabtaan "..laakin there are exceptional cases just like today alshabab attacked the troops from gubta area that is a messed up place and trust me the troops cant cover all those places..the only places they are left is Gubta, dayniile and Suuqa Xoolaha...Gubta and dayniile let murusade madani troops which are on the government payroll protect it coz they have intell within the community..just like the sahwa troops in iraq which eliminated the alqeade idiots from iraq
