Accused of Praying Too Loudly
Militant Islamist group al-Shabaab has arrested imams from three mosques in Baidoa for refusing to abide by a ban on the use of loudspeakers during Tahajud prayers.
Abdu kadir Ahmed, a Baidoa resident, told Somalia Report the al-Shabaab militia closed three mosques in the town and arrested the Imams. The Imams were from the mosques of al Qudus, Taqwa and Towba where people go for late prayers. He added that Baidoa residents were angry over restrictive orders issued by al-Shabaab.
During the operation, fighters also detained five youngsters for having mobile phones with movies on them, residents said.
Meanwhile in Barawe district, Lower Shabelle region, al-Shabaab arrested three young men and accused them of spying for the government. Al-Shabaab on Tuesday executed three young men in Daynile district for alleged spying.
