In the 1990s my school in Sweden used to serve horse meat in our canteen. It was the meat in the Hamburgers.

Horse meat tastes good, but it's heavy. Felt like I ate a brick after eating a sandwich with horse meat and mayonaise.

I don't know what you had but it didn't taste nothing like chicken. Maybe close to beef but not chicken.

If true, but would it have to be chopped halally by Muslim butchers?

Muslim countries like Uzbekistan eat horse meat and its a delicacy.

And yes, they do slaughter in the halal way.
