A number of elders from Somalia’s Semi-autonomous region of Punt land, criticized President Abdurahman Mohammed Faroole and his government of not taking appropriate actions to stop piracy in the region.

“What is going on our land is that pirates' number is increasing day after day and it effects us in different ways- economically and security , as elders we are condemning the president and his Administration,” Sultan Ali Said Awl, spokesman for traditional elders, told Somalia report by phone.

Said Awl, who is From (Majeerteen Clan), confirmed that pirates have military activities in Punt land, adding that the government can identify and stop pirates centers and investors.

Elders also say that piracy effects is felt in Commercial City Bosaso where the threat posed by the vice cause skyrocketing of goods arriving in port.

Mohamed Ahmed , a pirate based in Bargaal, in Punt land's Bari region told Somalia Report that some ministers serving in Faroole's governmnet have shares with the pirates.

He however refused to give details of the alleged ministers.

On the other hand, Puntland’s Sea transport minister Said Mohamed Raage denied existence of piracy activities in region.
