Worst Terror Attack in Somalia

Postby RovingMadness » Tue Oct 04, 2011 5:07 am

Overwhelming Majority of the casualities are students who were at the Ministry to find out their Exam Scores. So far, no casuality on the government side.

Somalia: Huge suicide blast kills many in Mogadishu

At least 55 people have been killed by a huge suspected suicide blast near government buildings in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, say officials.

Eyewitnesses said a truck carrying explosives was driven into a gate near a government ministry and detonated.

A spokesman for the Islamist militant group al-Shabab told the BBC it had carried out the attack.

A BBC correspondent at the ministry said there were bodies on the ground and soldiers firing into the air

He said it was the worst incident he had ever experienced.

The blast struck outside a compound housing government buildings in the Kilometre Four district.

An official with Mogadishu's ambulance service, Ali Ruse, said 65 bodies had been recovered and at least 50 other people had been injured.

"Some are still lying there. Most of the people have burns," he told Reuters news agency.

Al-Shabab, which has links to al-Qaeda, controls large swathes of south and central Somalia.

It retreated from Mogadishu two months ago, but analysts said that without a front line it was likely to begin carrying out more suicide attacks.

It was a cowardly attack meant to rally the defeated Al Shabab terrorist. But inshallah it will only unite and pressure the people of Mogadishu & Southern Somalia to defeat this menace once & for all. Ina lilahi wa ina ileeyhi raajicuun.

In all likelihood, the terrorist culprit is a Somali Youth from the West; and hence why SNET Moderators & Administrators have a moral & religious duty to ban young adults that propagate the views and ideologies that led to this nihilistic and barbaric attack

Ciyaal-warta,

I just updated the opening Post!

Unfortunately, try as we might, these sorts of attacks can not be entirely prevented. Mogadishu is huge city as you, and thee government building are located in the midst of commercial & residential neighborhoods. It's almost impossible to investigate or search every car that goes through such areas and hence why the terrorists are targeting our soft underbelly.

But there are no excuses. The government must tighten it's grip on the city and deny the enemy it's ability to plot and plan. This should be a wake-up call for everyone. For the people of Mogadishu, for the government, for the security agencies and the International Community.

yap bro its big city and difficult to search every car but they atleast shouldnt allow big cars to easily pass near the government buildings man plus they shouldnt sit and watch them organize outside mogadishu ..there needs alott of things to be done and the population has to help the government otherwise they will suffer like this wallah...inshallah this will be a wake up call for the pple and government..now i need to check up on my friends who are in mogadishu some of them went there for vocation
