Somalia Education Statistics. Please Contribute Your Region

Postby dagameison » Tue Nov 15, 2011 8:53 pm

This is section is dedicated to knowing statistics of education institutions, student numbers, teachers in each region of somalia. I can only speak for Puntland because that's where my expertise lies but what I can tell you is that puntland has the following in each of its 8 states;

1. 156,000 Students
2. There is 560 primary schools,
3. 53 high school
4. 26 Schools are Public Schools and free for students which is funded by the Puntland Govt
5. 6 colleges
6. 8 Universities
7. 5000 Teachers

I only know this because Ministry of Education gave a brief to President sharif regarding the education statistics in his recent trip to garowe. You can skip it to 20 minutes and hear it yourself

Please all regions of somalia siiba somaliland iyo galmudug provide statistics since those areas have a government

Don't try and beef up your stats because we are doing better than you. That's petty.

I am not trying to beef anything up Just go listen to the briefing yourself, I even made it easy for you and told you where to start listening at the 20 minute mark. Its only like 2 minutes. He said Boqol iyo kontan iyo lex kun. I didn't hear it properly at first cause it was very loud in there.

University and colleges back home are a joke. They are opened by hungry money businessmen who don't care. The quality of education there is just appaling.

The quality of education is so bad there that people think that the Earth is flat. Even though the Quran disputes this and science says otherwise.

I went to a university in Hargeisa as a visit back in 2009 and there I stumbled upon a law book my class used in 11th grade
Law class. It was being used as the official law book for one of the classes there in the Law Program. The class that day was learning about the "Oakes Test" because it said that on the board. I had a field day when I saw the "Oakes Test". It is something I learned in my high school law class and here it is being taught in a Somali university.

"The Oakes Test" refers to determining if legislation should be struck down or declared invalid by Canadian courts for whatever reason.

What I want to know is that why are Somali students in Somalia/land learning about Canadian law and this "Oakes Test" and have a Canadian lawbook as the primary book for the class?

Its because education in these Somali universities are a joke. The irony in education in Somalia is when you see schools over there (pictures of schools) have signs that have spelling errors.

Education in Somalia is a business. A booming business and the people that own them are businessmen with no regard to teaching kids anything useful.

Its all about money. What I am getting at is that it doesn't matter if there are 500 colleges, 250 unis, 50,000 high schools... It doesn't matter.... Its all a piece of crap
