It was The EPLF that forced that article 39 to be added into the ethiopian constitution after the fall of the derg, you would see many ethiopians today especially amharic Blame Eritrea for article 39.
What's the difference between eplf and eritrea or the tplf for that matter?

The difference is in 1993 EPLF almost planned to remove TPLF because the habesh did what the habesh do best.. Change their minds about eritrea again, luckily we had 30,000 Troops in addis to make sure the referndum and seperation goes ahead, Meles started hinting about rescheduling the referndum and the next day Eplf were conducting Secret Meetings with The OLF (Oromo Liberation Front), Once meles heard about that he backtracked. Eplf and tplf hated each other from the inside and that 1 million Ethiiopian who died in tigray in 1984 was partially because the eplf shut the route from port sudan for the aid while the other route was through mengistu controlled area's. Article 39 was forced by the Eritreans so they would have the political escuse to seperate from ethiopia after the military victory, The onlf was promised to have their chance few years after but once eritrea seperated Meles Ignored it and messed ogaden up. If you look at the process for article 39 you can tell that a non ethiopian drafted that as it implies that any region who wish to seperate can hold a referndum in its region and votes are only acceptable by the local population, you see not the whole ethiopia but only indegionus population, That was done for eritrea and obviously 99.8% voted for seperation, i would imagine ogaden would easily get 50% if they had the chance but like i said Meles had other idea's. That is why eritreans are very sympathetic to ogaden because they were one of the four who helped shape it in the late 80's in sahel (ONLF,OLF,EPLF,TPLF) its like leaving a man behind. In the same token the tigrayan habesh like to live it there so they can threaten the amhara that without them ethiopia will break including Tigray so they use that against the amhara. What suprises eritreans most is that the ogadeni people actually saved More tigrayan lives than eritreans but their chage of hearts suprises Eritreans, How could you do that to people who helped you less than a generation ago??? One more thing Mengistu had more than 200,000 Troops at the peak of the war fighting and occupying Eritrea while had an ill equipped one divison controlling all of tigray.

This was added by the tplf tigrayan people liberation front melez wanted independence for tigray before the tplf changed its mind if things go wrong the tigrayans will declare independence this article is to protect the sovereignty of the ancient kings of Ethiopia pretty smart this rule does not apply for other ethnicties like the oromos amhaaras and gurages the eritreans took their independence by force this one is to protect the tigrayans.

That was forced by the eplf on the throat of tplf so Eritrea can seperate in a political manner, TPLF of seperation was an old dream of joining Eritrea and call it Big tigray, lol Eritreans would rather unite with Tahiti than Tigrayans, Tigray can't seperate they don't have coast/they don't have fertile ground for food and they are surrounded by People who don't like them from all side (Eritrea/East sudan Beja/Amhara/Afar).

Midrigeez this hate between tigrayans from Ethiopia and biher Tigrayans of Eritrea was created by the Amhaaras i know the Eritrean believe the Tigrayans from Ethiopia are not pure not Noble and have oromo agaw and other trash in it  And their ethnicity is not pure but eventhough you guys speak the same language the Tigrayans of Ethiopia are hated by the Amhaaraas the Amhaaraas also hated the separation of Eritrea in 1993 they question the Ethiopianes of The Tigrayans , older Tigrayan folks don't have so much hate for Eritreans only the young generation. Eventhough Both dictators melez and isiyas are playing their own people against each other. yeah sure the tigrayans are landlocked but affars in Eritrea have access to sea an Eritrean once told me a tigrayan was born to make the lives of an Eritrean Miserable they will do everything to destroy our country he said they will use every means to do so

Not really, the hate was created way before that, The tigrayans slaughtered nearly 80% of the Biher Tigrigna population 120 years ago, Under King yohannes and his right hand man Ras alula, 400 Years before that something similar happen when King isaac fought and lost against them who he was an ally to ahmed gragn. To tell you that 120 years ago the Biher tigrigna were allies of the mahdist who were 100x more Extreme than binladen would give you an idea that this is a Row that has been going on since 1000 b.c, This would be worst than bin laden and Bush becoming allies by 10 times. The biher tigrigna fought alongside the mahdist against King yohannes in metema and chopped his head off, a whole suburb In eritrea today is named after one of the generals who assited the mahdist, Tigrayans are always Tigrayans old or young, and this has nothing to do about isiais or meles when both dies both people will still have that feelings of mistrust between each other, about the afars The whole Eritrea is afarland they were the first, all Eritrea up untill the border of sudan was afar... That is why they wear the red cloth around their head it means they were the first people of the red land. Djbouti afars half of them are from Central Eritrea too and all red sea afars have the same ancestory. Anciently East sudan plus northern Eritrea was Beja then most of Eritrea + Djbouti was Afar then Tigray and amhara land was agew and south to them were "dir" and other somali Tribes. Eritrea is named after the red sea afars.

The whole Notion of Ethiopia is fake and all those numerous complex ethnicities were forced on eachother by the abysinian emperor Menelik. The future of ethiopia looks bleak and wont survive.I just want somali region to be free and have their own internationally recognized gov with ogaden leading as they are the ones leading the ONLF.oromo should get their own state as they have all the eligibility to survive on their own,we somalis can have cordial relations with them and allow them to use our ports to import what ever they want provided they pray taxes.the oromos have some internal divisions but ultimately their freedom will be granted.I know some oromos who came to mogadishu as ICU fighters to kick some tigray ass in somalia,i have sheltered 4 of them in my own house in 2008.

anyway can you translate this song into english,i think it is nationalist eritrean song.what language is it afar?

Some of the posts in this thread are pretty ridiculous. There is no constitution in Ethiopia. Only in name. The primary reason for most of this stuff was consolidation of power. The constitution was based on the transitional charter of the TGE (Transitional Gov’t of Ethiopia) which is not the same as the gov’t today. The TGE included now “outlawed” groups such as the OLF who partnered to write the charter. For Meles this was just a game of consolidating power while eliminating his enemies one by one. Eritrean succession was based on colonial boundaries and not article 39. And the EPLF has always opposed the breaking up of Ethiopia (with exception of Eritrea, because they were a legitimate Italian colony) and it was the EPLF which convinced the TPLF early on to abandon its succession goals. The EPLF also convinced the OLF to do the same in 1991, they also convinced the OLF not to fight Meles and to bend over for him to which they complied. To this day the OLF is enslaved by the EPLF. Anyways article 39 was simply Meles’ effort to consolidate power. For example article 49 of his constitution says that Addis Ababa belongs to Oromia. Then 10 years later when he didn't feel threatened anymore Addis Ababa was removed from Oromia State. So to understand why these things are there you have to understand the political environment at the time the constitution was drafted.

Midrigeez i know there were many ethnic wars in the 18 19 centuries many fought also because of religion But there is also something that has united centuries the Biher tigrayans and Tigrayans the first Christian Kings in Aksum than again Midrgees the Biher tigrayans are not all Muslims so what differenates them is merely just Ethnic differences since the Tigrayans are not Mixture of things. What about the ancient Sabean civilization of Aksum in Northern Ethiopia and Modern Eritrea

  Eritrean succession needed a political exit for an international recognition, Military victory was not enough. You telling me 100,000 Martyrs Died fighting under the eritrea Flag for 30 years to say " we change our mind now", Do you think if EPLF didn't want to succeed they couldn't?? even meles Body guards were eritrean commando's in 1993. Colonization has got nothing to do with it, if its the case then Somaliland would get recognised overnight according to your theory, You need Recognition in a political Frame to get recogonised otherwise countries will be signing on and off on countries breaking up and uniting within years of each other and the thing would become a joke. One more thing majority of The eplf actually advocated to have the oromo to govern Ethiopia instead of Tigrayans, but that would've delayed the referndum and seperation process and EPLF wanted out ASAP from ethiopia. Why would EPLF WOULD WANT to stay with ethiopia??? the first thing the did is kick 10,000 amhara Living In Eritrea from the southern regions.

The Oromo boy might have a point there Eritreans hate to see Tigray region to break away Melez zanawi him self a half eritrean on his mother side granted the Eritreans independence even though they agreed but the tplf or modern Eprdf was smart there was no leadership in Ethiopia on rebel side that could lead Ethiopia the Tigrayans Grabbed their chance with two hands. If only General Caydiid was installed as President of Mogadisho in 1991 Somaliland might have been recognized state today, but The Amhaara Ethiopians are the most nationalistic they would never dismember Ethiopia the oromos And tigrayans and the Somalis would do if they got the chance. While Melez and his tigrayan folks are Milking Ethiopia  They will declare secession the day Ethiopia falls apart

Article 39 of Tigres was not planned to secure the right of other nations for this would be practically hindered as long as Tigres stayed in power.

A very good example is the revision of the decision made by Somali Regional Parliament for self-determination in 1995, which caused the main conflict between ONLF and Weyane. Ogadenis were denied the right to self-determination, which is theoretically guaranteed as a constitutional right. Since then, the ONLF has to fight for the same self-determination, which it could have achieved in a peaceful way. This shows why the Article has no value for other oppressed nations other than for Tigres.
