GALKAYO, Somalia Apr 24 2012 (Garowe Online) – Galkayo authorities apprehended a man with explosives early Wednesday morning, Radio Garowe reports.
Chief of police for Mudug region Colonel Jama Mohamed Ahmed held a press conference in Galkayo said that the man was apprehended Wednesday morning with a large amount of explosives in close proximity to Omar Samatar secondary school and a municipal headquarters in Galkayo.
Chief Ahmed declined to say if the man was linked to Al Shabaab because the investigation was in its early stages but did say that the man was from southern Somalia.
Galkayo a city that has a reputation for violence has been relatively stable in the past months with Puntland authorities tightening security in the city. Galkayo police monitor by foot neighborhoods in Galkayo regularly, which has led to a dent in crime in the capital of Mudug region.
Chief Ahmed told Galkayo residents to be cautious and to report suspicious activities to authorities.
With Al Shabaab being forced out of their strongholds in southern Somalia reports say they travelled north infiltrating Puntland and Somaliland.
