Meles Zenawi has many qualities that make him a prime candidate for the Machiavellian Oscar, he sucessfully thwarted an all out civil war in Ethiopia by promising an equal federation of states thus preventing various ethnic groups from gaining support via appeal to ethnicity. His domestic policy genius, sucessfully injecting ethnic proxies that represent their people for example the kill5 administration zone. He also has positioned his ethnic group the Tigray in a favourable position siphoning funds meant to develop the whole country into the Highlands. Melez Zenawi is a man of decorum he has marginalized the Amhaaro and politically neutered them.

His foreign policy is even more amazing, this man has sucessfully branded Eritrea as a rogue state determined to suply terrorists in Somalia with weapons and has turned the UN and other agencies such as the IMF, World Bank etc, against the small red sea state.

I don't even have to discuss his role in the myriad Somalia continues to be in today and the future he has outlined for Jubbaland.

Indeed Mr. EagleHawk, I think Meles Zenawi learned his great political knowledge from Marehan themselves, it is only they who have controlled the Somali jungle for 21 years. How can Meles be an asset in the future of an independent Jubbaland?

It’s simple as you can see, mr melez discovered oil in dheka the reer Hassan part of the lugh mandeera basin, now for mr melez to utilize this new found wealth he requires effective ally across the border in Somalia, in the short term he needs us to guarantee security and in the long term our land will be the transit point of his oil to the world through kismaayo.
That’s why mr melez is advocating for 3 gobol jubaland instead of his previous 6 gobol maamul which he wanted to come under raxanwyan majority

Manshallah, there should be an oil pipline in Dheka region that can export oil via Kismayo. I think Meles gave up on the Berbera oil pipeline and has vied for the Kismayo option which is cheaper and more convenient. I think Marehan should get their act together and work with Meles to export oil in Dheka region (Mandheera-Lugh) basin we can also help Meles to export the Chinese Ogaden desert oil and secure the pipeline that way.

Big economic investments can be completed with ethiopia.

Kismayo maybe the new muqdishu.

Dictators with zero-sum mentality have absolute rule and stamp out all those who oppose them. As a result of years of backstabbing his comrades, jailing some of them, if he was to fall one day their is nothing for the country to fall back on other than complete turmoil. Unless he can groom a successor and quietly leave which is difficult once you get use to the temptations of absolute power.
