You should be well aware of what comprisies the guide lines of being a leader, or being the leader and the head of the Hijaz.
In the Qur'an, translations have came out to be very metaphorical, due to the rich language and literature it is written in.
In Sura Al Maa'idah verse number 51, Allah Subhaanhau wa ta'aala states:
[5:51]O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors:They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.
When reading this, only a blind man will see this as taking friends in a individual context, When this verse was released during the lifetime of the blessed prophet (pbuh), no one really understood it as of that time Muslims would never even want to deal with Jews and Christians, hence this was a Ayah that it's meaning was meant for the future, where the world will become smaller, and people would interact, co-operate, and make alliances with each other, despite having different faith, culture and land.
In today's world, unfortunatly, when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was established in 1924, after the forced abolishment of the caliphate, due to the co-operation between the Saudi's and the Western World, in a bid for the Saudi's to access help and assistance from the British Empire in order to remove the Turkish Caliphate out of the Hijaz, the deal was also to establish the Saudi's a monarchy where they will remain rich, and the rulers of the Hijaz.
Further more this alliance between the early saudi's, or the father of King Abdullah, Abdal'Aziz bin Saud, comprimised the verse in the Qur'an where Allah clearly stated " Do not take them as friends and
protectors" whereas Bin Saud was protected and paid £5,000 by the British Empire whom fall in the "Ahlul-Kitaab" box.
Today the Saudi's have allied themsleves with, Isreal, the United States, Europe, NATO, and have sat and watched massacre's go on in Iraq, in Palestine, and in Lebanon, whereas if they were really righteous they would have stepped in and defend their muslim brothers. Sadly they took the devil's deal in having a Monarchy with wealth and all the things they wanted, in exchange for their Islam.
If Bin Saud comprimised Allah's order in the 1910-1924 period, what his children did today was 1,000 times much more worse , and Allah says regarding this

That if you allie yourself with Ahlul-Kitaab, that you are one of them, and that Allah does not guide unjust people.
This is not individual, a person with a open mind, and a open heart, could clearly see this Ayah, walking infront of their eyes today in this era, in this age. That this Ayah was telling us of these events.
