Somalis in Dubai

Post by miskeen86 »

As of 2005, 17% of the population of the emirate was made up of UAE nationals. Approximately 85% of the expatriate population (and 71% of the emirate's total population) was Asian, chiefly Indian (51%), Pakistani (16%), Bangladeshi (9%) and Filipino (3%) and a sizeable community of Somalis numbering around 30,000.
That's a lot of somali pple in Dubai. What part of Dubai do these Somalis live at? Name the neighborhood, and what do these somalis do in Dubai?

i dont know what parts they live but somalis are doing mad business there goldshops, clothing business, hotels.
Even though it is a country of fewer than 10 million people and has come top of the world's list of failed states for the past four years in a row, it is, I am told, the second biggest importer of goods from Dubai, after Iran.

Somalis are literally :eat: there.

A place called Suuq al-Dahab has many Somalis living and working there. You'll even find Somali owned hotels etc. but thats not the only place they live and work. You'll find Somalis all over Dubai.

Yes, in recent years in Dubai there has been an increase in the number of Somalis,it never used to be that popular, but as Hyper said most Somalis there live dispersed from each other. They may meet up in Makhaads but don't necessarily live in the same place. There were some areas where you'd find more than a couple families living with much cheaper rents, but a lot of people are always on the move for either better housing/jobs. I'd say amongst the Emirates, Ajman followed by Sharjah and Dubai has the highest population of Somalis including Al-Ain.

Forget that, the Cadaan Brits are taking over.

Up till 1991 there were over 100,000 somalis in the UAE
Mostly abudhabi and mostly isaaq.
Themajority have become refugees in the west or returnef home.
I was too young to care about qabiil back then but the population was too big that every subclan had their own cafes and resteraunts.
Habar awal had their own hj and hy their own.
My father used to frequent one called odayo xum.
