i'm guessing religious festivals that are not islamic = haraam

but ethnic ones that are not haraam = halaal?

Everytime i answer that question the najdiyya just run away, it's obvious you must stand with the sahaba, rather then a 20 year old fatwa.

The sahaba are guarenteed jannah, can't say the same for ibn Baz :blessed:

These are "fatwas", a ruling from scholars based largely on their opinion and interpretation. Many fatwas contradict each other. It is up to you whether you want to follow it or not. It's not the law. For instance, I believe smoking is haram since it is forbidden to use something that is harmful to your body and there are fatwas that say smoking is haram. It is a fatwa I accept. But this fatwa is not sometimes accepted by many. In fact, cigarettes are available for sale widely in the city where the Prophet pbuh was born

I personally don't follow fatwas. Many are created by crazy people. Some create fatwas that stated that mobile ring tones are haram. Fatwas of drinking the prophet's urine being a blessing. Fatwa allowing unrelated men and women to work together if the woman breastfeeds the man a certain amount of times.

As for the congratulation the gaalo on their festivals, I say to them Happy Holidays or if they say Merry Christmas, I say "you too". And it ends there.

I've asked many salafi sheikhs this question and they all say he did not.

@ Simplyserene
On christmass, we have to tell them that we do not celebrate that.
As for new years, indeed responding to the kuffars with "wa aleyka" is much better.

@ Dictoore Yalaxoow,

I aint hater, but why would i celebrate their festivals when i have my own. :blessed:
