Somaliland - Police in republic of Somaliland have detained two suspected al-Qaida militants, raising the number of terror suspects captured in two days to seven, the regional leader said Saturday.
Dahir Riyale Kahin, the president of the internationally unrecognized republic, said the two suspects were detained Friday in the capital, Hargeisa, adding that two other militants were on the run.

The suspects were part of a group who received terrorist training in camps run by Islamic extremists near Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, Kahin said.

Four other suspects were captured late Thursday after a shootout. A fifth was arrested Friday 20 miles west of the city. Three police officers and one suspect were wounded in the clashes.

"The men pretended to be Islamic clerics and entered Somaliland through different regions four days before they all gathered in Hargeisa," Kahin said. "Islam is a religion of peace, but terrorists, like chameleons, change colors and try the one they can easily blend with."

Somaliland rulers — like leaders of Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and elsewhere in the region — are keen to be perceived as allies in the U.S.-led war against terror.

The United States and United Kingdom should include Somaliland and other small nations in the fight against terrorism, Kahin said.

The former British colony of Somaliland and the Italian colony of Somalia merged in 1960 to form the independent republic of Somalia.

Somaliland set up its own administration after breaking away from the rest of Somalia when the Horn of Africa nation descended into anarchy because of clan-based fighting following the 1991 ouster of President Mohammed Siad Barre.

Lionheart I think its the clergyman who betrayed the trust of Somaliland officials by allowing man whose intentions was to kill and disrupt the little peace the citizens of SOmaliland enjoyed be among them.

What you want doesn't mean a hill of beans. Somaliland is maintaining as close a relationship with the US and Britain as it can. And it always will! Allahu Akbar! Islamic psychos are not welcome in Somaliland!

Ducaale

Disappoited by your ignorance. The world is heaving with single-clan nations. In fact there are even quite a few single extended family nations. Maybe you should look at the world map again.

Your `why write in a Somali webiste' pettiness is shabby too. We write in Yahoo does that make us Americans? All Areabic-speaking nations write on Al-Jazeera but they remain different nations.

This idea that we should be one because we speak teh same languigae and share the same culture is probably the most ludicrous rationale for building nation-states in the modern world. I sometimes wonder whether our Somalia brothers think before they spew their anti-lander bile with such All-Stock Must Go Clearance Sale intellect.

Arabs have tewnty odd states - all seperate all-independent. Germans share language with Austria and other Eurom countries. Five europeans nations three of them cosnsiting of single families speak French. Malians, Nigers, Chads and Burkinabes are the same people more or less and share Islam and ethnicity.

In latin america everybody speaks Spanish except Brazil. And of course Aussies are despised by NZers although they share everyuthing we share and more since they share early history something we DON'T.

Unions of nation-states today are voluntary marriages of convenience and only remain when all parties feel their economic, political and social interests will be enhanced by a union.

If not they go their seperate ways. Some remain friends cbut Sopmalis seem to believe in a zero-sum game: We are either united in a deadly embrace of corruption, barbarity, genocide, injustice famine and war or we hate each other. I prefer the alternative: such union is dead, but we MUST remain peaceful, friendly, allied neighbours with three flow of goods, people and services and any somali-speaker must be allowed to travel and set-up buisiness or home wherever he wants.

Personally I would love to have a hilltop house on shimbir Biris Mountain and another in Hamar or Merka. Oh and a Brewery - big massive one that brews crisp, dry, premium draught lager made from top quality Elmi Jama Sorghum between hargeisa and Borame.

So chill-out somalia. We don't hate you we just think you are too dumb, violent and uncool for us to do anything with. Apart from that you are really OK. Honest.

Mad Cow Somaliland has no relationship with Us and Britian, because they on't recognize Somaliland as country. But Somaliland has relationship with Ethiopia, Senegal and especially South Africa. You know what Somaliland is better off having strong ties with South Africa, Senegal and its two faced neighbor Ethiopia rather than user or Imperialist American and Britian.

Mad Cow are you welcome in Somaliland...
