If mr erdogan wants the AKP to be a permanent fixture in Turkish politics he needs to decouple the AKP brand from his personality.
Mr erdogan needs believe in his parties independence as an institution and not conflate his ego with the party.
Mr erdogan is not a messiah nor a parent figure to turkey, he needs to realize that 10 years at the top, is the best he can get, his ability and relevance has peaked weather locally and internationaly and now his policies are having hang overs and chickens are coming to roost, this is the best time to go.
Now one might be tempted to roll onces sleeves up and face the challenges head on but that naïve obamasque narrative won`t work, why because mr erdogan has greatly used his political capital in other important political fight like challenging the military, advocating for arab spring and supporting Syrian rebels.
From this moment on mr erdogan will be in the same position as those arab dictators who when it mattered didn`t have any leverage in any sector of society or with the international community.
Mr erdogan needs to choose whether he wants to go alone or take AKP with him because he wil go.,
