It won't stop people from chewing, especially if they have an addiction. This means more money will be allocated towards their drug habit, less money for their families, and depending on the price, there will probably be an increase in illegal activity (theft, trafficking, etc). Also, expect more skinnys in prison aka more Somalis who have criminal records, can't vote, can't find a decent job, denied bursaries/scholarships/grants, more single moms/fatherless households and other forms of social segregation.

this banning was long overdue and i could never understand why the UK government took so long to realise that khat caused mental, physical and social issues problems.

but i am glad they did it finally. and this banning will definitely help a lot of families financially and will enable them to be closer and probably save a lot of marriages.

i have friends here in the US who, if they ever have the opportunity to chew khat, would do it everyday and probably would have lost their jobs or would have changed their current way of life for the worse.

so kudos to people like me who are aggressively opposed to khat use and campaign for outlawing it.

a great day indeed.
