Arming Syrian Rebels is Machiavellian Genius

Postby Grant » Thu Aug 22, 2013 9:37 am

In view of the gas attacks, Policymic drug this out this morning:

http://www.policymic.com/articles/50085 ... ian-genius

By Joseph Sarkisian in World, two months ago. An old piece with some interesting logic:

"By providing calculated military support to Syrian rebels, the U.S. may be able to gain traction in its conflict with Iran, thus cutting Iranian support for Assad and possibly leading to his fall without the need for U.S. escalation beyond current involvement.

This strategy is not pretty and will cause further bloodshed while leaving many scratching their heads in disbelief. But it may also prove brilliant in solving a seemingly intractable conflict. The Obama administration is exercising Realist foreign policy at its best, and whether this policy stands up to the rigors of moral review, remember that Machiavelli was no prince…"

A side benefit might be taking out the Al-Nusra front.

This is the thing that I was stressing all this time, the involvement of arming the rebels is solely to weaken Iranian assets in the Arab world, once Iran loses it's support it's weaker obviously. I commend the US CFR for their skill in plotting, I'm disappointed with the rebels, because after Iran it's over for the ME.

Just mind your own business and leave Syria for the Syrians to sort out.
