Why do we expect religious people to be angels?

Postby BuuloXubeey » Mon Sep 16, 2013 7:01 pm

I mean seriously this mentality of a religious person not doing crime or unislamic thing is just stupid. Religious people are human just like a ciyaal suuq or non-practicing Muslim. Every human being has weak spot and freewill. When you tell a person this so and so religious person did this, they gave you that shocking face that is impossible. Seriously we need to stop this mentality. Nobody is a angel, every human being is the same when it comes to desires and struggles.

Do you know that a Sheikh will end up in Jahanam and his student will say to him, how come your in hellfire and I'm in Jannah. Stop idolising scholars and sheikhs, they are human being just like us. I'm not saying disrespect the scholars and sheikhs but i'm saying stop idolising them.

Learn the difference between a religious person and a pious person!!!!!! May Allah make us all pious ameeeeeeen

I agree. People judge by appearances and think that they know just about a person's essence simply by looking at their exterior. Also, there are those who expect those who they think are religious to embody or represent their religion. Basically, it is just due to ignorance and shallowness.

We should expect them to be virtuous because we think high of them. If i see a regular person drink alcohol and a sheikh drink alcohol, the element of shock will be there. He set a precedent when he chose sheikhhood, and tbh high expectations are good for them. It means they will have to watch their step and avoid sinning in public.

The possibility is there. Only Allah knows what is in someone's heart.

Religious people are supposed to set examples for the non religious people. We expect them to follow the sunna not to be angels.

That's what the Prophet is for. I usually see people whose faith weakens after they see some Saudis doing some of the worst sins. Every Muslim should follow the sunna, why hold another human being more accountable than one's own self?

True, every Muslim should follow the sunna. No one is holding anyone accountable for anything. Once you are religious people expect you to guide them if they are doing anything wrong or in case they don't know a certain thing about the religion. Don't we all ask sheikh so and so if we don't know something? Or even ask someone more religious than you are? Well I am not religious and I do follow the sunna at times. I am not perfect, no one is perfect and I don't expect sheikhs or religious people to be perfect either.

Sheekhs/imaams are human beings that are placed in a high pedestal for the simple fact, they are very conversant in regards to our diin. All else is irrelevant, what they do whether good or bad is up to them and Alle. Let’s not lower our imaan with such doubts in our hearts.

Religious is pretty subjective. I've been called a wadaadad because I happen to pray, as if salah is a supererogatory act.

i just dont understand the term. do you mean learned person about religion?

i know my circle is very small, but i have seen people who pray in the masjid regularly and drink alcohol or harass strange women in the street, or even heard some do drugs. so having issues with bad habit doesnt mean you leave salat or fasting.

how many times we heard imam masjid or mu'athin. rape kid in the masjid's washroom etc.

people are human, and do not regard high standard to any one.

These are terminologies we made up to make us feel good of our own shortcomings, he or she is religious because they pray and fast but I'm a 'average muslim so is not so bad when I don't.

At the time of the prophet (pbuh ), there were no religious, wadaad Muslims, only Muslims.
