Somalia has moved forward!

Postby SultanOrder » Mon Dec 02, 2013 6:04 pm

It may be a strange thing to say, especially considering the fact that the government has fallen due to a Vote of No Confidence. But it is still a remarkable thing to know that the government has fallen due to a motion by parliament, especially considering how previous governments were dissolved or completely changed. We are witnessing the imperfect cogs and wheels of governance slowly turning and work.

I am not happy that only a year after the formation of this government we are back to square one, but I know that square one is not the same square one it was a year ago. In this year foundations of ministries that function have been set, especially notable ones like the Aviation, Finance, Foreign, State, Education, and Finance. The government didn't fall because they were complete failures, considering where they started they made great progress, but they fell because of politics. This is oddly similar to many advanced democracies, where governments come and go constantly.

We have seen democracy in action through our Parliament, that is not to say that there are not serious imperfections and ethical misgivings, but the fact that both parties in dispute saw parliament has the way to settle their dispute is a remarkable thing in Somalia. The real victory is not whether Saacid survived or not, but the real victory is that power has been restored to, and understood to reside in Parliament. This is a major confidence boost for Parliament to take action. This is also a powerful message to the Somali people who have longed viewed the power of their destiny residing in unreachable foreign hands, and through this, I hope they realize that parliament is accountable to them, and they have to hold them to account.

Now, don't get me wrong, I know the reality of where we are, and it may take a long time before Parliament functions properly, and it may take until people can cast the vote. But I do think that we have moved one step forward in our path to democracy, and a functioning government. The institutions of Government are bigger than Xassan Sheikh and Saacid Shirdoon, and they will last longer than them.

I also want to commend the remarkable maturity the President and PM have shown in the public eye. There was no discrediting or political wrangling, and both behaved with unquestionable decorum. For what happened behind closed doors is just that, and I can not judge from what I do not know.

So I must say that I do support our government, though I won't approve everything they do, because I know Somalia is moving forward!

:? Negro please! A government led by a donkey in a suit is your government? You really need to reflect at least a little before you write the nonsense you write. As a marehan pursue no interest other than marehan interest because you would be a fool to think that there can be such a thing as A somalia.

Lol seems you believed in the nick kays diplomatic comments!

The parliament has been kidnaped, if they truly were a real institution they would have sided with the pm to protect the constitution!

Read for professor samatars comments that saacid was a political victim of dam jadid!

This doesn't mean I'm againist them, just stating the facts!!

To naive for my liking, it was never about the institutions, or the lack of it. It is about who controls them. And right now it is the corrupt damul jadiid regime and until they are out of the picture I can't be optimistic about the future.

Anyways in other way your thread is progressive one because the reactionary powers are using the constitution for their clanish interests.
